TITLE: Mechanic


EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Twelve (12) Months


SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified Salary


GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide skilled support services to ensure the safe and efficient operation of school district vehicles.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

 

TECHNICAL – MECHANIC

  1. Repairs and maintains vehicles
  2. Maintains vehicle repair and maintenance records
  3. Performs routine and preventive vehicle maintenance
  4. Maintains tools, parts and equipment inventory
  5. Notifies the supervisor of all unusual problems and concerns affecting the transportation operation
  6. Participates in various training sessions to upgrade skills
  7. Performs other related tasks as assigned

BUS DRIVING

  1. Serves as a substitute bus driver
  2. Maintains a clean and safe transportation facility
  3. Obeys all traffic laws, observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  4. Enforces all bus regulations set forth by the district and state
  5. Inspects bus twice daily before each operation for mechanical defects
  6. Notifies proper authority immediately in case of mechanical failure or tardiness
  7. Transports and discharges authorized students only, and only at authorized stops
  8. Reports all accidents and completes required reports
  9. Participate in student safety training
  10. Reports undisciplined behavior to appropriate staff
  11. Assures that students follow safety rules when boarding and disembarking bus
  12. Collects student personal items left on the bus; returns to appropriate staff member(s)
  13. Drives only on assigned bus routes insuring timely pickup and discharge of students
  14. Prepares reports as required
  15. Keeps assigned bus clean
  16. Performs other related tasks as assigned

CERTIFICATION: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card


HIGH RISK OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION: Works with hazardous materials and with large vehicles; works in confined spaces.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Extensive knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, diagnostic equipment and public vehicle regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent


EXPERIENCE: More than three years experience


SUPERVISION: Must use own initiative and judgment


RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for valuable equipment and tools


LICENSE: Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License
